Have you re-started Word disabling the Nuance Add-ins? I will try to request help from Nuance - although I suspect my chances are slim, since I don't have a service contract and since they've recently updated their software to V3 (mine is V2). (or its corresponding GUID - although I haven't managed to locate that) which needs to be run to service the request. So I'm guessing that it is the OS itself which handles the request - and that it picks the convert assistant executable because there is a registry entry that references the executable the main Nuance PDF editor application itself. Perhaps I should ask: when attempting to open a PDF document via Word's open document dialog, what is the mechanism by which it (Word? Office? Or perhaps Windows itself?) delegates this task? For example, if I try to open a PDF, Nuance's PDF conversion tool The behavior remained unchanged after restarting Word. Just now, I also went ahead and completely removed all Nuance add-in references from Word (Options / Add-ins / COM Add-ins: I selected each entry, then clicked on Remove I had to launch Word under the Administrator account before it allowed me to carry I tried re-opening Word after disabling the add-ins, which had no effect.
